The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was convicted of plotting a military coup in last fall and given more than over two decades in jail, but he was staying under house arrest pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after fresh information came to light.

This included seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a summons to a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the custody, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the ex-president's plan to remove the tracking monitor to ensure success in his escape.

This, it said, would be made easier by the confusion caused by the gathering called by his offspring.

His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a senator, called for a gathering of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on the weekend.

The senator wrote on online platforms on the previous day: "Are you going to fight for your country, or watch it all from your smartphone there on your couch? I invite you to struggle with us."

He said the demonstration would be so followers could seek divine intervention for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of Justice Moraes's decision was the possibility of the former president's move to diplomatic missions near the residence, considering that the probes revealed a record of organizing to request asylum through a embassy office", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork emphasizes that the American diplomatic mission in the national capital, Brazil's capital, is situated around 8 miles from the former president's residence.

Worldwide Consequences

The former president's legal troubles have drawn the ire of fellow right-wing populist United States President Trump, causing him to implement a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

He is being held in a national police facility in the capital and will have a detention review on Sunday.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Supreme Court to permit him to fulfill his full incarceration period under house arrest, with electronic monitoring.

They also petitioned that the former president be allowed to depart his residence for healthcare, saying he required regular treatment for respiratory ailments and other ailments.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was convicted of leading a plot aimed at keeping him in power after he failed to win the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Supreme Court justices said that he was aware of a plan which encompassed plans to kill Lula and his VP candidate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the High Court judge who has been overseeing the former president's case.

The conspiracy was thwarted because it failed to get the endorsement of the armed forces officials. His successor was took office without problem on the first day of 2023.

But a seven days after, on the eighth of January, numerous Bolsonaro supporters attacked and damaged government buildings in the capital, the capital city.

The police stepped in and around fifteen hundred individuals were detained.

The justices found that the rioters had been encouraged by Bolsonaro whose strategy, they said, was for the country's army to step in, reestablish control and bring him back to power.

At the time, the legal team called the decades-long sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also prohibited from running for public office until 2060 - eight years later after the completion of his term.

The one-time head of state called the trial a "witch hunt and said it was aimed at blocking him competing in the next presidential race.
